Professional reviewers love the HP Officejet Pro L7680, but we see a lot of harsh criticism in owner reviews about the multifunction inkjet printer's software and setup and HP's tech support. Professional reviews say it's a good printer, copier, scanner and fax -- almost as fast as a laser printer on documents. It's cheap to operate and produces good photos and text documents with a generous 250-page paper tray. You can purchase a second paper tray (350 pages) for about $100. Owner reviews are generally more positive for the HP Photosmart Premium Fax C309 (Discontinued), the top-rated general-use multifunction printer in reviews.
PCMag.com and CNET are go-to sources for printer reviews because they test many of them and assign an overall score that make comparisons easy. Both give high ratings to the HP Officejet Pro L7680. CNET readers, however, generally disagree with that in their owner reviews, and we found similar harsh user comments at Amazon.com and Newegg.com.

Our Sources
PCMag.com gives the HP Officejet Pro L7680 a recommendation, and reviewer M. David Stone says of HP's claim that this inkjet can rival the speed of lasers costing twice as much: "HP is exaggerating the L7680's capabilities -- but only by a little." It's relatively slow on photos but fast on documents.

2. CNET
CNET, which is thorough in its testing, gives the HP Officejet Pro L7680 a top rating because of its speed, print quality and low price per print. But more than 100 owner reviews here combine to give the L7680 just two out of five stars, with most gripes being about the software.

PC World's Paul Jasper rates the HP Officejet Pro L7680 as "good" (about a dozen owner reviews score it a bit lower). It's judged expensive, but "it comes loaded with nearly everything a small-office could want É strong speed, good print quality and low consumables costs," Jasper says.

4. Small Business Computing.com
Decent hands-on testing results in a "rave" review of the HP Officejet Pro L7680 from Eric Grevstad with this kicker: "Unless you need six-color photo printing, the HP is the best-performing all-in-one we've ever tested, and its relatively thrifty ink costs are icing on the cake."

5. Amazon.com
About half of the more than 140 owner reviews at Amazon.com give the HP Officejet Pro L7680 below-average scores, with more than 60 giving it the minimum score. A lot of the complaints are about poor tech support after installation problems.

6. NewEgg.com
More than 70 owner reviews here are almost equally divided among those who like the HP Officejet Pro L7680 and those who don't. There is a lot of sharp criticism about software issues and poor technical support, plus noise and paper jams.
