Excellent battery life on a netbook previously was defined as anything over six hours. Then came the Asus Eee PC 1005PE, which provides jaw-dropping battery life that is unmatched by any other netbook. For light use, which includes word processing or Internet surfing, the Asus Eee PC 1005PE lasts between 10.5 and 12 hours. Under demanding conditions such as continuous video playback, the battery goes for more than eight hours -- two hours more than most netbooks. Since it has such great battery life, the Asus Eee PC 1005PE is often recommended for travelers who are faced with extended travel time. Powerful speakers and a bright display are additional pluses. Some reviewers would like to see a higher display resolution (it has a 1,024-by-600-pixel display) and the glossy screen coating is susceptible to glare and reflections. While battery life is excellent, the Asus Eee PC 1005PE has typical netbook performance in other areas, so it's not the best choice for intensive computer tasks. The more recent Asus Eee PC 1015PEM (*Est. $250) also has excellent battery life and it includes Intel's latest dual-core Atom processor.
Laptop Magazine, AnandTech.com and ComputerShopper.com have the best reviews of the Asus Eee PC 1005PE.
