Coffeemakers
by Editors of Consumer Reports
Our Assessment Consumer Reports evaluates five "to-go" coffee makers as part of a larger test, and in a completely separate report, nine pod coffee makers are evaluated. Ratings assess each coffee maker for convenience, pouring and ability to produce brews of varying strengths. For pod coffee makers, editors also measure the temperature of the first cup compared to the temperature of the second cup.

Single Serve Coffee Machines
by Contributors to Amazon.com
Our Assessment

Amazon.com is a good source for owner-written coffee maker ratings, and we found a wider variety of comments posted here than at Epinions. Many of the one-cup models here get over 100 reviews -- enough to get a good idea of overall reviewer consensus. The Philips Senseo, for example, receives close to 800 reviews. Amazon.com is perhaps best used for identifying problem coffee makers, especially when owners report consistent problems for specific models.

The One Cup Coffee Makers Weblog
by Jay Brewer
Our Assessment

Jay Brewer's site is great for information about pod coffee makers and pods, K-Cups or T-Discs. There are very few comparative articles, although we did find a helpful roundup comparing pod coffee makers' cost per serving here. We wish Brewer would provide an overview of the various pod coffee makers and their pros and cons. This site does a good job of tracking the latest in pod coffee maker technology, and it's a good spot to learn about different brands.

Gourmet Kitchen Appliances
by Editors of The Nibble
Our Assessment

Editors test and critique Tassimo, Keurig and Senseo single-serve coffee systems in two separate reports. They prefer the Keurig to the Tassimo because it is sturdier, and the quality of the coffee is higher. It's also nearly maintenance-free, while the Tassimo requires cleaning after making milky drinks. The Senseo is "not a coffee connoisseur's machine," because the coffee offerings are limited. These articles are useful, but we wish that editors had pitted all three machines against each other, instead of just pitting the Tassimo TA1400 versus the Keurig B50.

CoffeeGeek Reviews
by Editors of and Contributors to CoffeeGeek.com
Our Assessment

CoffeeGeek.com offers detailed expert reviews of coffee makers, including some one-cup and pod coffee makers. There's also a consumer reviews section. Members judge the quality of each review, a nice feature. This is a good place to find reviews of specialty coffee makers, but there's not as much here on one-cup coffee makers; readers prefer alternative brewing methods like vacuum brewing and manual drip. The AeroPress by Aerobie earns a high overall rating from owners. In the expert reviews, the Keurig B60 gets higher ratings than the Senseo HD7810.

The "New" Coffee Makers
by Adam Ried
Our Assessment In this dated article, editors rate two pump-driven one-cup brewers along with two other types of coffee makers. They use several criteria, including flavor of the finished brew, convenience, brew time and temperature immediately after brewing -- 30 minutes and an hour later.

Best of Top Rated Coffee Makers
by Contributors to Cooking.com
Our Assessment Cooking.com includes some one-cup coffee makers on this list of models that get the highest overall user ratings. The site also allows you to sort models by number of reviews, best-selling machines and price. There isn't the same volume of reviews here as at Amazon.com, but Cooking.com is still a good cross-reference website.

At What Cost Convenience? Testing the New Single-Serve Coffee Systems
by Kenneth Davids
Our Assessment

Coffee Review claims to be "the world's leading coffee buying guide," and this review of three single-serve coffee makers (the Keurig B100, the Melitta One:One and the Flavia SB100) is thorough, but dated. The reviewer here points out that the Flavia and Melitta models offer the choice between five- or eight-ounce cups using the same amount of grounds, while the Keurig brews eight-ounce cups exclusively. The Keurig is rated easiest to use and praised because it accommodates several varieties of pods.

A Barista Buzz, Home Style
by William Grimes
Our Assessment

William Grimes includes ratings of three pod machines, pointing out that taste is determined less by the machine and more by the coffee. He tests the Senseo with a mild-roast pod that he finds "insipid." This article would have been of greater use if Grimes had tried pods with different characteristics in each machine. All three pod models tested -- Senseo, Melitta One:One and Black & Decker's Home Cafe -- fall short.

Coffee and Espresso Makers Less Than 5 Cups
by Contributors to Epinions.com
Our Assessment Once you have your choice narrowed down to a few models, consumer opinion sites like Epinions can be helpful for finding out what owners think about their coffee makers. In general, there aren't as many comments here as at Amazon.com. A decent number of reviews are posted for some pod machines, such as the Philips Senseo HD7810, but many one-cup machines have no reviews or aren't listed at all.

Coffee Maker Reviews
by Contributors to WholeLatteLove.com
Our Assessment There aren't many owner-written reviews here; certainly not as many as at Cooking.com or Amazon.com. Pod-style models by Keurig and Bunn are the only machines of their type covered here.
Single-Serve Coffeemakers
by Editors of Good Housekeeping
Our Assessment Using blind taste tests, Good Housekeeping rates four different one-cup coffee makers. The Melitta One:One Pod Brewer bests its more expensive competitors, while the Philips Senseo earns the highest rating for its good-tasting coffee and ease of use. Because of its age, this article contains inaccuracies.

Automatic Drip Coffee Makers Reviews and Prices
by Editors of ConsumerGuide.com
Our Assessment The ratings system at ConsumerGuide.com gives numerical scores for performance, ease of use and features, but this site's "expert reviewers" aren't identified and methodology isn't discussed at all. Reviews for several models list numerous pros but no cons. One to-go coffee maker gets a "best buy" rating, and another is called a "budget buy," but we're not sure why.
