Pod Coffeemaker Ratings
by Editors of ConsumerReports.org
Our AssessmentConsumerReports.org compares 15 pod coffee makers, evaluating each on six criteria: convenience, brewing range, first-cup speed, repeat speed, temperature consistency and size consistency. Two models have the highest overall score, which is based on convenience, brewing finesse and how quickly the first cup of coffee is produced. Several coffee and espresso makers have noticeably low overall ratings.

Drip Coffeemaker Ratings
by Editors of ConsumerReports.org
Our AssessmentConsumerReports.org evaluates three inexpensive "to-go" coffee makers as part of a larger test of drip coffee makers. One model receives a higher overall score than the remaining two contenders, although results for individual criteria are fairly balanced among the three models.

Handheld Espresso Maker
by Editors of Cook's Illustrated magazine
Our AssessmentThis review compares two hand-powered, portable coffee makers. The cheaper model is recommended, which uses ground coffee rather than a coffee pod. Testers say their choice combines the "slightly heavier body of French press coffee and the cleanness of drip coffee." It's also simple to use -- just fill a paper filter with ground coffee, add hot water and press.
Single-Serve Coffeemaker Showdown: 8 Brewers Put to the Test
by Jeremy Repanich
Our AssessmentPopular Mechanics compares eight single-serve coffee makers, evaluating them for speed, cost and convenience. The Keurig Special Edition B60 receives kudos for being easy to clean and cheaper per-cup servings than the Tassimo. However, editors say it lags behind its competitors in brew time. The Aerobie AeroPress is considered one of the messiest coffee makers while the Mypressi Twist is described as less than ideal. But, editors were impressed by the simplicity and taste of the Chemex, which they consider a best bet among manual coffee makers.

Single Serve Coffee Makers
by Contributors to Amazon.com
Our AssessmentAmazon.com is a good source for owner-written coffee maker ratings and identifying problem coffee makers. The Keurig Special Edition B60 receives an average of 4 stars (out of 5) from more than 1,000 owners, and the Keurig B70 Platinum earns a similar average rating in more than 825 reviews. The Black & Decker Brew 'N Go DCM18S receives an average of 4 stars from nearly 1,200 owners. The Aerobie AeroPress receives an average of 4.5 stars from more than 900 owners. A number of other one-cup coffee makers have garnered several hundred reviews.

At What Cost Convenience: Tasting the New Crop of Single-Serve Coffee Systems
by Kenneth Davids
Our AssessmentCoffeeReview.com claims to be "the world's leading coffee buying guide." This older review by Kenneth Davids outlines four main drawbacks of pod coffee systems in general and then evaluates 11 one-cup coffee makers, primarily on the flavor of the brewed coffee. He names the Keurig Special Edition B60 as his favorite, primarily due to the wide selection of coffee from well-known companies. The Bunn My Café is also a strong contender because it was compatible with all three sizes of coffee pods, made a decent cup of coffee and allows the brew size/strength to be adjusted. The pre-recalled Senseo HD7810 was a runner-up for "its low price, simplicity of operation, sturdy construction and selection of coffee through other vendors." A convenient chart shows how many cups of coffee were tested for each machine and the overall score.
An Obsessive's Guide to Coffee
by Ray Isle and Lily Barberio
Our AssessmentEditors embark on a pilgrimage to test 157 coffees and 67 coffee makers. The Chemex is a highly favored drip machine coffee maker and the Nespresso D290 is the preferred pod espresso machine. We don't know how many one-cup coffee makers were tested among the 67 models.

Ristretto -- A New Twist on Espresso
by Oliver Strand
Our AssessmentThe New York Times coffee page curator Oliver Strand explains how he first fell in love with the Mypressi Twist when he test-drove the prototype in April 2009. He says that although the nitrous oxide-powered coffee maker is impressive and straightforward, it doesn't steam milk.

Chemex Drip Coffee with the CoffeeMeister
by Erin Meister
Our AssessmentThis review by HuffPost.com writer Erin Meister is more about the Chemex coffee maker's brewing concept than its performance. She does, however, admire its curvaceous design and says that Chemex makes fantastic coffee, calling it the "Nat King Cole of coffee-brewing equipment."

Excellent, Easy Espresso From an Affordable Portable Machine
by Mathew Honan
Our AssessmentWired writer Mathew Honan reviews the Mypressi Twist and gives it a rating of 9 out of 10. This nitrous oxide-powered gadget can deliver thick, rich brew "just as good as what you'd get from a $2,000 countertop machine," but he says the single shots pour unevenly if you don't hold the unit level.

Single-Serving Coffee Maker's Mud Tastes Like Crud
by Bryan Gardiner
Our AssessmentThis is more of a review of the single-cup brewing concept than a review of the Keurig Elite B40. Bryan Gardiner, the writer, says the Keurig machine is as large as one that brews a whole pot of coffee and the coffee mostly tastes horrible. He does concede the Keurig is very easy to use and clean, and it delivers a steaming hot cup of coffee in under a minute. He gives the Keurig Elite B40 a rating of only 4 out of 10, which is noticeably lower than the Aerobie AeroPress reviewed in the same month. He says coffee drinkers are better off with a ceramic coffee dripper or French press, which is equally fast, less expensive and the resulting coffee is much more palatable.

Keurig vs. Senseo vs. Tassimo
by Tony Martinez
Our AssessmentBlogger Tony Martinez compares Keurig, Senseo and Tassimo one-cup coffee makers in this review. He's not an expert, but it's nice to see a comparison of three models by a consumer. He prefers the Keurig Special Edition B60 because it's more solidly built with a chrome handle, while the Senseo felt "light and plasticy." The Senseo was more work after brewing -- the soggy coffee-filled filter must be thrown away and the pod holder rinsed. The Keurig Special Edition B60 uses coffee sealed in a K-Cup container that seems less likely to turn stale than Senseo's paper filter pods, he says.

Review: Keurig Platinum B70 K Cup Single-Cup Brewer
by Jay Brewer
Our AssessmentJay Brewer's site has pod coffee maker reviews and a forum where owners of single-serve coffee makers can express their opinions. This review is a two-week comparison of the Keurig Platinum B70 and the Keurig Special Edition B60, and although it's an older review, both models are still current. Jay Brewer thinks the quality of coffee is the same in all the Keurig models, but likes the enhancements the Platinum B70 offers. The larger cup option brews enough coffee for a travel mug, the larger water reservoir is convenient for those who brew multiple cups of coffee a day and it's noticeably quiet during operation.

Belly Up to the Bar Code
by Michael S. Lasky
Our AssessmentWired writer Michael S. Lasky reviews the Tassimo Suprema and likes its simple operation, easy cleanup and barcode technology. However, he's less than enthusiastic about the beverage selections, referring to the tea as "watery" and the espresso as "characteristically muddy." He also says the expensive foil and plastic-based T-discs are not eco-friendly.

Tassimo Coffee System
by Editors of TheNibble.com
Our AssessmentBecause Braun stopped making the Tassimo coffee maker reviewed in December 2005, TheNibble.com evaluates the Tassimo Suprema coffee maker made by appliance-maker Bosch. Editors like that it's compatible with a wide variety of coffee pods from different companies, including Starbucks, Gevalia, Maxwell House and Seattle's Best Coffee. The machine can also be used to make hot chocolate and tea. Other improvements over the discontinued TAS 10 model include a more compact size and water filtration system. Testers say this machine's water tank is the easy to fill.

Review: Tassimo T65 Single Serve Coffee Maker -- T-Disc Brewer
by Jay Brewer
Our AssessmentReviewer Jay Brewer evaluates the new Tassimo T65 shortly after its launch from appliance-maker Bosch. He likes that it contains a number of upgrades from the previous T45 model, including an illuminated cup stand, automatic shut-off and a user-friendly, multilingual LCD panel that delivers instructions in five languages. He says this whisper-quiet unit's only drawback is its steep price.

Single-Serve Coffee Makers
by Contributors to CoffeeGeek.com
Our AssessmentCoffeeGeek.com features thousands of single-serve coffee maker reviews. Both CoffeeGeek.com editors and consumers provide detailed reviews of various one-cup coffee machines, rating models on a scale of one to 10 points. We gave this site a lower rating simply because the results are hard to quantify and no head-to-head testing is conducted.
Espresso Unplugged
by Sharon Franke
Our AssessmentSharon Franke tests the Mypressi Twist and says that while it produces "smooth, sweet coffee," "a thick head of crema" and "lovely caramel-colored foam," there are drawbacks to its use, mainly that while no external power is required to operate it, you still need a stove to heat water needed for the chamber.
