Most of the sites and publications listed on the Our Sources page -- including Barron's, SmartMoney magazine and Kiplinger.com-- are excellent sources of information about online brokers.
For more about brokers in general, SmartMoney magazine's article, "Online Trading: Stock Market Trading Online at Smartmoney.com," is useful.
SmartMoney magazine's article, "Should You Dump Your Broker?" is also helpful.
The website of the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) has good educational resources and a forum where you can exchange information with other investors. You have to join the AAII (and pay a membership fee) to have access to everything on the site, but some content is available to all.
You can find the most recent fee and commission information on brokers' websites, which are worth checking because this data changes frequently. Rates quoted in our report were current as of March 2011.
