Great shredder, November 22, 2007
This product works as advertised. Great for shredding CDs and DVDs. I have shredded quite a few discs and the unit has worked flawlessly.
This is the Wrong Model !!, October 2, 2007
The description is for the Model 24120, not the model shown. This model is smaller and will not shred Floppy Disks. I'm currently shipping one back because of the incorrect description.
Shredding heaven, August 23, 2007
This product was so very easy to use and incredibly fast. It easily shreds CD, DVD's and old credit cards. It is also a nice compact size. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a dependable and fast shredder.
Not quite what the specs say, April 20, 2007

I purchased this shredder specifically for destroying CD media, which it excels at, and floppy diskettes for which slots no longer exist on any computers I own. It shreds the CDs quickly and effectively; also does credit cards quickly and effectively. Amazon's product information for this model (240130) is partially incorrect. The product description says it also can shred floppy disks, but this is NOT true. There is no slot on the machine that will accept a floppy disk. In looking further at the Alera web site, there appears to be a model 240120 that does deal with floppy disks, but it received very mixed reviews.

Does a nice job., January 6, 2007

I purchased this shredder (not from Amazon) specifically for destroying DVD media, which it excels at. It goes through about 50 discs in 2 minutes. I put about 400 discs through it so far, and it only jammed on me once. I also tried some paper...this model requires you to fold the sheets in half, and you pretty much have to fold an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper exactly in half, or it won't fit through the slot. I ended up folding my paper lengthwise. Amazon's product information for this model (240130) is partially incorrect. The machine says it can shred 5 sheets of folded paper at a time, not 15. The basket is only one piece as far as I can tell, and it definitely does not hold 4 gallons of material...maybe 1/2 gallon. About 40 discs will fill it up.

Our Sources

1. Amazon.com

The Alera Technologies 240130 DVD/CD Shredder Plus Disc Shredder has only five reviews at Amazon.com, but almost everyone strongly praises this unit's ability to shred DVDs and CDs. Its ability to shred paper, however, is limited; it can take about five sheets at a time, and the sheets must be folded to fit into the slot sized for DVDs and CDs.

2. ConsumerGuide.com

This review really isn't much of a review; the un-named author lists features of the Alera paper and media shredder. Although a rating is given for "performance," there's no evidence at all that this paper shredder was even examined in person.
