We turned to user reviews for the most helpful information on the Powershred SB-97Cs. Because it's a pricier unit, we didn't find as many reviews as with lower-cost shredders, but in more than 125 owner reviews, we found very few negative comments.

The Fellowes Powershred SB-97Cs is a large home shredder that gets high marks in reviews. This shredder has more power than many other home units, comfortably destroying 10 or more pages at a time, staples and all. It also features a separate slot for CDs/DVDs and credit cards -- a feature reviews say works well; the main intake is nine inches wide. Users say it can also handle unopened junk mail. Like other Fellowes units, it shuts off automatically when the paper entry is touched -- a helpful safety feature users love. It has a much larger bin at 10 gallons than other personal shredders, which is helpful for frequent shredding but definitely not a space saver. Like other shredders, continuous heavy use can cause the unit to become hot or overheat. Fellowes shredders rate well in reviews; for those wanting a smaller unit, the Fellowes Powershred DS-1 (*est. $110) has a 4.75-gallon bin, and the Fellowes Powershred P-57Cs (*est. $60) comes with a five-gallon basket.
