HSM shredstar Multishred One-4-All

Pros
  • Compact size
  • Also shreds CDs, credit cards, staples, and paperclips
  • Few jams
Cons
  • Slow speed
  • Small bin
  • Expensive

The HSM shredstar MultiShred ranks high with reviewers for its compact, desk-top size and powerful functionality. The model cross-cuts eight sheets of paper at a time at a speed of 40 inches per minute. The one-gallon bin makes this model small enough to fit just about anywhere. Reviewers not only like the small size, but praise its power to destroy paper, CDs, credit cards, staples, and small paperclips with ease. They say the model is quiet, but some say the shredder is slow. Though more easily found in Europe, the U.S. branch of HSM produces the shredder in the United States. Still, this model is hard to find in stores and very expensive. It doesn't shred CDs, but we did find solid reviews for the similar sized Aurora AS420C Desktop Crosscut Shredder (*Est. $30), which costs a lot less.

The most comprehensive review for the HSM shredstar MultiShred, comes from Which? magazine, where testers rate the model on how well it destroys CDs and credit cards, shreds, speed, versatility, ease of use, and durability. Similarly, Good Housekeeping Research Institute engineers compare the model against three others.
