Reduced-fat peanut butter
- Contains 75% less fat than standard peanut butter
- Versatile -- powder can be used to make a paste, or combined with other foods
- Lacks the taste or texture of commercial peanut butter even when water is added
There is abundant praise and criticism for PB2 on online message boards some dieters, especially on WeightWatchers.com, consider PB2 a godsend. Professional reviewers generally ignore PB2, but we found a detailed review on TheNibble.com. It's not a comparative review, however; PB2 is, at this writing, a unique product.
PB2 is a powder; you'll need to add water (and some say oil) to give it something approaching the consistency and taste of commercially produced peanut butter. TheNibble.com points out that PB2 is not really a powdered peanut butter, it is powdered peanuts in which 75% of the fat has been removed, although some salt and sugar have been added. "There is no food magic that allows us to remove 75% of the fat (or sugar, or whatever) from a product without noticing a difference," TheNibble.com's review states. Editors like PB2 when mixed with other foods baking, stirred into yogurt, etc. One message-board poster describes stirring the powder into milk. TheNibble.com says the smell is satisfying: "If you aren't a frequent dieter, you can't appreciate how enjoyable this is." While PB2 is an interesting product, it doesn't appeal to everyone, and it's a good idea to buy a small quantity first to see if you like it.

TheNibble.com says it reviews are not influenced by advertising and this one reads like it isn't, although it's not a comparative review. The review asserts that PB2 is actually powdered peanuts rather than powdered peanut butter, and while it in no way rivals peanut butter for taste, appearance and texture, it's a great choice for dieters and for recipes.
