Reviewers give the Canon Selphy CP780 pretty high grades. Although this printer is officially discontinued, it is still widely available at retail. Reviewers find the Selphy's picture quality very good, though it does not quite measure up to that of than the top-rated Epson PictureMate Charm (*Est. $150). Some reviewers note that the CP780's prints seem to have what PCMag.com's M. David Stone calls a "slight soft-focus effect." Reviewers also complain of occasional misprints, such as unintentional cropping of photos and diagonal lines that print with jagged edges. The CP780's per-print costs are a bit higher than the Charm's as well. The CP780 is also slower, taking more than a minute to print each photo, while the Epson takes around 42 seconds. On the plus side, professionals and users agree that the CP780 is very easy to use --virtually goof-proof," in the words of one reviewer. At just over 2 pounds, the CP780 is easier to tote around on trips than the nearly 5-pound Charm -- although in that case, you may want to add the optional battery pack (*Est. $80).
The most comprehensive review of the Canon Selphy CP780 is M. David Stone's article for PCMag.com, offering a thorough and balanced evaluation of the printer's pros and cons. ComputerShopper.com and PC World also offer fairly comprehensive reviews of the CP780, while About.com has a somewhat less detailed review. ConsumerReports.org includes the CP780 in its tests of snapshot printers, and we found significant numbers of user reviews for this model at Amazon.com.

2. PC World
PC World's Susan Silvius laments the Canon Selphy CP780's "mediocre speed and expensive, wasteful consumables," blaming these problems on its dye-sublimation technology. She notes that print quality varies, with some photos looking "pale and unrealistic, like a bad 1950s postcard."

ComputerShopper.com reviewers conclude that the Canon Selphy CP780 is "a well-built snapshot printer" and admire the quality of its prints, but they also say that it lacks editing features and options leading to an unimpressive score overall. The writers note that while the printer's initial cost is low, its paper and ink are relatively expensive in comparison to other models.
