A Review of Online Photo Sharing Services
by Mike Gravel
Our AssessmentThough a little older than some reviews that we rate, FirstTube.com's comparative review of eight photo-sharing services has the most objective and balanced overview. It rates each service on 15 pre-defined criteria, more than any other review. Mike Gravel states that SmugMug is his personal choice for photo sharing but also praises Flickr as being an excellent all-around site and Picasa Web Albums for its accessibility.

7 Alternatives to Flickr
by "Eric"
Our AssessmentPhotography Bay discusses the features of Flickr and then reviews seven alternatives. The anonymous writer does not directly compare the services, trying instead to describe the type of user to whom each service might appeal. For example, he states that deviantART serves as an image-sharing community for artists, while Photobucket is for hosting images for social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. In the end, he picks SmugMug as his favorite, appreciating its customer support and foolproof backup methods.

Untitled
by Editors of StarReviews.com
Our AssessmentStarReviews.com tests and rates several photo-sharing services. Features, navigation, usability, pricing, customer service and the ability to sell photos are all discussed. Rankings seem focused on results, ease of use and customer support, but the basis for ratings is not always explained and services are not compared directly with each other. We like that the site tests customer support by e-mailing each service to see how long it takes to get a response. A significant negative is that despite being updated in February 2009, the review does not seem to be entirely current. MyPhotoAlbums no longer has a free option, and Fotki's Webware 100 nomination, listed under "What's New with Fotki," happened back in 2007.

Photo-sharing websites
by Editors of Which?
Our AssessmentWhich? is a British consumer magazine much like Consumer Reports in the U.S. Testing is balanced and well regarded, but discussion is typically brief. Six photo-sharing websites are compared in this article. Snapfish is recommended for its simplicity and versatility. If printing is not required, Flickr is best for organizing and categorizing photos.

Some Flickr Alternatives
by Horst Gutmann
Our AssessmentZerokspot is the personal homepage of Host Gutmann, a computer science student in Austria. This review of five alternatives to Flickr does not pretend to be thorough or objective, but it ends up doing a good job of highlighting key differences between the services reviewed. A comparison chart at the bottom of the review is particularly handy. Although Gutmann does not leave the reader with the impression he will actually switch from Flickr, he does note that SmugMug is a "real alternative to Flickr." He also describes Zooomr as the only service where a free account is "worth something." Reviews of 23hq, ipernity and Fotocommunity are more lukewarm.
Four Free Photo Sharing Sites Rated
by Jenneth Orantia
Our AssessmentThis review provides relatively detailed descriptions of Flickr, Snapfish, Photobucket and MyPhotoAlbum, giving the latter two 4.5 out of five stars. The criteria for assigning stars is not made clear, but each service's description adequately discusses the advantages and disadvantages. The review seems biased toward the ability to customize how photos are displayed. Since the review, MyPhotoAlbum ceased its free service, leaving Photobucket as the sole top-rated free service in the review.

Top Photo Sharing Sites
by Liz Masoner
Our AssessmentThis About.com article is one of the few that analyzes the merits of photo sharing sites based on their cost. For example, Imageshack's paid membership is dismissed as too expensive for what it offers but Imageshack is still included on the list on the merits of its free offering. However, the review is not a comprehensive comparison and does not provide any depth on PBase or Imageshack. MyPhotoAlbum is noted for its value among paid subscriptions, customization options, and plethora of gift options. (Note: ConsumerSearch is owned by About.com, but the two don't share an editorial affiliation.)
Photo Sharing Reviews
by Editors of PhotoSharingReviews.com
Our AssessmentPhotoSharingReviews.com reviews and rates five photo-sharing services. Only Shutterfly and SmugMug receive a rating of four stars or more out of five. The editors appreciate Shutterfly's easy sharing capabilities, which do not require viewers to sign in, and its array of printing and gift options. However, they give SmugMug the highest rating, describing it as the most "feature-rich" service, with the only drawback being its price.

The Best Free Photo Software
by Michael Muchmore
Our AssessmentThis review is objective and balanced but is not wholly relevant because it evaluates photo software for a number of capabilities beyond just photo sharing and looks only at free options. The reviewer clearly prefers Picasa for its more generous online storage allowance and lack of ads, making it PCMag.com's Editor's Choice for Best Free Photo Software. Apple's iPhoto is also given an Editor's Choice, but this is clearly because of its photo editing and organizing capabilities, not its photo sharing. The tandem of Flickr (sharing) and Picnik (editing) receive four out of five stars. Links lead to longer individual reviews.

Photosharing - Comparing Flickr, Photobucket and Zooomr
by Dolores Parker
Our AssessmentDownloadSquad.com reviews three popular image sharing sites, but does not really pick a favorite. Photobucket is noted for its ease of use and quantity of features, while Flickr and Zooomr are praised for "minimal ad intrusion" and oriented toward social networking.

Photo Sharing Even the Folks Can Handle
by David Pogue
Our AssessmentThough the title implies an emphasis on photo-sharing services, David Pogue is clearly biased toward sites that allow photo printing, as the premise of the story is that Flickr was too confusing for his grandmother to use to print a photo. Eight services are covered, though one has since stopped operating. Pogue eventually settles on Picasa for photo sharing and Kodak Gallery or Snapfish for photo printing.

Best Online Tools for Sharing and Editing Photos
by Errol Pierre-Louis
Our AssessmentWithout directly comparing photo-sharing services, this article simply describes the best for a variety of tasks. Errol Pierre-Louis selects Flickr for its ability to involve the user in a photo-sharing community and highlights Phanfare for sharing photos among private groups of family and friends. Links lead to longer reviews, some which are also linked to in the PCMag article cited above.

Five Best Photo-Sharing Websites
by Adam Pash
Our AssessmentThis post at the Australian edition of Lifehacker summarizes five online photo-sharing websites that the site's readers voted as the best. This article provides brief summaries of those sites that made the cut, along with a couple of honorable mentions, however no absolute best service is name. by Vaibhav Pandey
Our AssessmentThis blog post briefly describes six photo-sharing websites. However, Flickr is singled out as "almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world."

Photo Sharing and Printing Reviews
by Contributors to PhotographyReview.com
Our AssessmentPhotographyReview.com is an independent website where users can post user reviews about most things photography related, including photo-sharing services. Most services with more than a small handful of reviews don't rate particularly well here with the exception of SmugMug, which earns a nearly perfect score after nearly 20 reviews. No user rates SmugMug at less than four out of five stars, which is a noteworthy achievement. Several of the write-ups are lengthy, and many reviewers list the other sites they have used.
Photo Sharing Services Review
by Editors of TopTenReviews.com
Our AssessmentTopTenReviews.com selects and compares 10 photo-sharing services on the basis of their feature sets, ease of use and help/support. However, analysis of the latter two criteria is brief and there appears to be no actual testing of help/support features. The comparison generally comes down to a listing of features, thus favoring the services that have the most, regardless of quality or priority. In addition, although the listing is labeled as being updated for 2009, the inclusion of now-defunct AOL Pictures and referring to Kodak Gallery as "Kodak Easy Share Gallery" imply that the report has not actually been updated in a while.
