Smilebox photo sharing software (http://www.smilebox.com) goes beyond AOL Pictures (free, http://aol.com/pictures), allowing you to drag and drop photos into any one of hundreds of slideshow, photo album and scrapbook templates. The designs can then be further personalized with music and text, and you can send the URL to friends who want to view the result (so they don't have to download any software). The free version of this program displays some advertising. Smilebox Premium has no ads, and you can let visitors view your creations full screen for about $2 per design.
We found the best review of Smilebox at The Wall Street Journal, whose tech columnist, Walter Mossberg, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of this photo-sharing program. PC Magazine also has a review.

In this early look at Smilebox, Mossberg and Boehret say this photo sharing software program sets itself apart with its design features: photos can be dropped into the user-friendly program and enhanced with slideshows, photo books, postcards and scrapbooks, all with added text and even background music. Mossberg concludes that Smilebox is "simply enjoyable."

Smilebox is reviewed here from the context of scrapbooking. Smilebox is praised for its "colorful, clean interface" though some of the design, font and customizing options aren't very robust.
