While expert reviewers top-rate glass pie pans like the Pyrex Bakeware 9\" Pie Plate (*Est. $10), the plain-Jane Pyrex pan has a fairly no-frills design. For a plate that can go from oven to table, stoneware pie dishes give you more choices of colors and designs. Many are also deeper, so they work well for heavy fruit pies and small casseroles. On the downside, stoneware and ceramic pie plates are heavy, and don't allow you to monitor a baking crust like glass pie pans do.

Good Housekeeping's tester, Sharon Franke, says it well: While it baked fine, its looks set it apart as an "all-purpose oven-to-table server."
