Coop Home Goods Shredded Memory Foam Body Pillow

Body pillows provide total support

Many people love body pillows for their all-over body support. Most are large enough to run the full length of your body -- or at least head to knees -- so you have somewhere to rest your head, arms and legs. Body pillows come in a variety of shapes, from rectangular to other, less-structured designs so you have plenty of choices for your sleep style. Pregnant women are particularly fond of body pillows and there are a number of body pillows that are targeted specifically to the maternity market.

The body pillow with the best reviews we saw is the Coop Home Goods Shredded Memory Foam Body Pillow (Est. $70). It's the top-ranked body pillow at SleepLikeTheDead.com, where it earns a 93 percent customer satisfaction rating. It conforms well to any body type, say owners, thanks to its shredded memory foam filling, and at approximately 20 by 60 by 8 inches, is a good size for even the tallest user. The Coop Home Goods body pillow gets good durability reviews too, owners say it holds its shape all night, and retains its loft even after many washings -- the entire pillow is machine washable, but you need to allow plenty of time for it to dry.

The White Brushed Cotton Natural Feather-filled Body Pillow (Est. $40) by National Sleep Products is another well-reviewed, and somewhat more affordable choice. It's available primarily at Overstock.com, where it gets very high ratings in hundreds of reviews. Many users express joy at finally finding the "perfect" body pillow after trying others that weren't as comfortable or didn't hold up as well. This body pillow has a rectangular shape, like a traditional bed pillow, but measures 17 by 45 inches by 3 inches. If you're very short or tall, this pillow may not work for you, but the majority of owners say it fits very well and makes it easy to find the right sleeping positon.

Owners say the brushed cotton on this pillow is very soft and comfortable; it's also removable and machine washable. The micro feather stuffing provide good support as well as cushy softness. Because these are smaller feathers, there are no "pokey" quills. The Brushed Cotton Natural body pillow gets particularly high praise for its durability. Many other body pillows go flat or get lumpy after a few weeks or months, but reviewers say that this body pillow goes the distance. It does need occasional fluffing, however.

The Pinzon Basics Body Pillow (Est. $35) may be an even better value for some. It gets similarly good feedback to the National Sleep products pillow, but is also a bit larger at 54 by 20 inches. Taller individuals are particularly happy with it, saying it runs the length of their body better than more traditionally-sized body pillows. However, this Pinzon body pillow is described by quite a few reviewers as firm or overstuffed. For many, that is a good thing, but others say that it's too big, too firm and is "like sleeping with a log."

The Pinzon includes a removable, washable 230-thread-count cover, but the pillow itself is not washable. It's reported as extremely durable, with many owners saying that it's still as fluffy after several months as it was the day they bought it.

Either of the above two body pillows will work as a pregnancy pillow, but the Leachco Snoogle Total Body Pillow (Est. $55) is made specifically to conform to the shape of a pregnant women. Many reviewers who are expecting say that this is a "must have" for any pregnant woman, especially as she approaches her third trimester and has more trouble getting comfortable. It's C-shape makes it easy to move around to support various parts of the body, and it's reported as very supportive, but not too firm. A few women don't like it, saying that it's too large or too firm, but they are very much in the minority. A careful read of the complaints indicate that women who are shorter or taller than average do not find this pillow as comfortable as more average-sized women.

Of course, you don't have to be pregnant to appreciate the Snoogle. We saw comments from a number of people -- male and female -- who bought this body pillow because of back issues and say it has helped them immensely. Also, the manufacturer includes a helpful guide to other uses for this body pillow after pregnancy, such as using it as a nursing pillow, which makes it even more versatile. The Snoogle is stuffed with 100 polyester fiber and the removable, washable cover is a cotton polyester blend.
