Bottom line

The Serta iComfort Contour Pillow is made of memory foam, specially shaped to cradle the head and support the neck. This makes it comfortable for most back and side sleepers, but not suitable for stomach sleepers. It may also be uncomfortable for users with short necks that don't fit comfortably into the curve of the pillow. It's a bit pricey, but it holds up well and comes with a five-year warranty.

Comfort

Shaped for support. Testers at Real Simple magazine say this pillow "contours brilliantly" to support the head and neck, without trapping body heat the way some memory foams can. They also note that the material is resistant to dust mites and microbes -- good news for allergy sufferers. Most Amazon.com users find the pillow extremely comfortable for both back and side sleeping. A couple of them, however, say this pillow feels too big or thick. One short-necked user complains of pain because the pillow's shape forces her head forward. Several users do note that the pillow feels firmer when you first lie down; however, it softens in response to your body heat.

Value

Pricey but durable. At roughly $70, this memory-foam pillow is pricier than a fiber pillow but cheaper than most down pillows. Users say the pillow holds up well over time; one owner says it grew only slightly softer over a nine-month period, and another says it's still "shaped perfectly" after two years. The pillow comes in only one size, 20 inches by 15 inches. This is significantly smaller than the standard 20 by 26, but users don't find it too small; if anything, they say, it feels a bit big. The pillow has a removable, washable cover and is backed by a five-year warranty.
