- Good picture quality
- Good value
- Room brightness sensor
- Good sound quality
- Not the best blacks
- False contouring
- Standard-definition performance only fair
Though not extensively reviewed, the feedback available shows that the 42-inch LG 42PQ30 is worth considering for those on a budget. Picture quality is good, though not as good as that of more expensive TVs. Features aren't particularly generous, but a sensor that automatically adjusts image brightness to room lighting is a big plus. Sound quality is also better than most current TVs, reports say. The Panasonic Viera TC-P42X1 (*Est. $650), which has been more extensively reviewed, is another consideration in this price range. Reports indicate that the two TVs have pros and cons relative to each other, but the TC-P42X1's biggest advantage is much richer black levels.
ConsumerReports.org reports on this TV's 50-inch sibling, the LG 50PQ30 (*Est. $800), but performance should be similar. CleverReviews.com reports on the 42-inch LG 42PQ30, but spends more time on features than performance. A small handful of user-written reviews can be found at Amazon.com.
