  • Inexpensive
  • Good connectivity
Cons
  • Picture quality not perfect
  • Some temporary image retention problems

If you want a 32-inch plasma TV for a small living room or bedroom, reviewers say the Vizio VP322 is a good choice. No one says that the image quality of this Vizio plasma TV compares well to those of top-shelf manufacturers such as Pioneer and Panasonic, but it's not bad in its own right -- and certainly better than any similarly priced 32-inch LCD TV. Although not widely distributed, this Vizio TV is available at both Wal-Mart and Costco. The Insignia NS-PDP32-09 (*est. $550) is another choice in this screen size. It's only available at Best Buy, but it's done reasonably well in user reviews. One negative is that it's more expensive than the Vizio plasma TV. Shoppers with a little more room in their home and their budget, however, might want to look at bigger, more expensive options like the Panasonic VIERA TH-42PX80U (*est. $730).

The 32-inch Vizio VP322 has drawn a bit of attention from reviewers. You can find detailed reports at BigPictureBigSound.com and CNET. ConsumerReports.org weighs in with its usual balanced testing backed, unfortunately, by insufficient commentary. There are tons of user reviews at WalMart.com and some give and take between owners and potential owners at AVSForum.com.

Our Sources

1. Big Picture Big Sound.com

The Vizio VP322 undergoes extensive bench and real-world testing in this comprehensive review. Chris Boylan says that not much was expected from the TV given its price, but despite some stumbles, the VP322 largely impresses.

2. CNET

CNET's Kevin Miller is not as impressed with the Vizio VP322 as some other reviewers. However, he also indicates that picture quality is acceptable given this TV's price, which is lower than most LCD TVs with the same-sized screen.

3. ConsumerReports.org

ConsumerReports.org includes the Vizio VP322 in its latest round of plasma TV tests. Testing is balanced, but discussion falls short of most other reviewers. Well more than half of the TVs included do well enough to be recommended.

4. AVSForum.com

The Vizio VP322 has spurred a thread with over 1,200 posts on this user discussion site, including several reviews by owners as well as photos. Most owners are pleased with this 32-inch set, despite its limited features. Complaints include difficulty in accessing the aspect ratio settings (done through the TV's menu rather than via the remote) and the lack of a zoom mode. Owners also report some temporary image retention, but note that this problem seems to lessen as hours of use accumulate.
