by Editors of ConsumerReports.org
Our AssessmentConsumerReports.org provides valuable buying advice and safety information, in addition to reviewing and rating six play yards in terms of safety, ease of use and portability. The bassinet feature is also given a score, if applicable. Each tested model is rated based on items such as the presence of a safety strap, whether a bassinet attachment would be easily removed by an older child, the security of the mattress (how well it is attached), ease of use and setup, and ease of transport.

Our AssessmentThe latest edition of this popular baby gear book includes a detailed write-up of play yards. Special attention is devoted to the Graco Pack 'n Play line, which encompasses a huge number of models. Travel play yards and cribs are also discussed.
Babble Best: Play Yards
by Nicole Feliciano
Our AssessmentNicole Feliciano picks the best play yards based on testing conducted by editors. While she doesn't provide specific details about what tests they conducted, she does discuss features, ease of setup and portability. She selects the Eddie Bauer Complete Care Play Yard as a Babble Best, citing its convenient travel features. The Complete Care Play Yard offers wheels and carrying straps, which make a jaunt up four flights of stairs and a trip across three states much more manageable, she says.
Best Tested Play Yards
by Samuel Dunsinger
Our AssessmentReaders of Canadian Family magazine test out four play yards, rating them on a scale of one to 10. Features, pros and cons are discussed for each, including quotes from testers. Each family tested only one model, so no direct comparisons are offered.
Playpens and Play Yards
by Editors of BabyGizmo.com
Our AssessmentA brief buyer's guide accompanies this review of five play yards, although no selection criteria are offered. The recommended models are reviewed in detail, and each is rated on a scale of one to five stars. Pros and cons are summarized for quick scanning. One exception is the Jeep Trek Easy Travel Playard, which is the only playpen on the list that isn't accompanied by a full review. The article suggests that the number of recalls in this particular baby product category makes play yards a poor choice for purchasing secondhand, and recommends never purchasing a model more than 5 years old.

Our AssessmentPlay yards aren't as frequently reviewed on Amazon.com as most other product categories, but there are several models with 80 or more reviews. The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light has a perfect five-star rating, based on over 90 reviews, while the Graco Pack 'n Play Playard in Bugs Quilt has a perfect five-star rating based on 380 reviews. The Graco Pack 'n Play Playard with Bassinet in Kensly and the Graco Pack 'n Play Playard with Bassinet and Changer in Brentwood both also score well among reviewers, with an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars each, based on 160 and over 80 reviews, respectively.
by Contributors to BabiesRUs.com
Our AssessmentBabiesRUs.com sells more than 70 play yards, most of which have received at least a handful of reviews. Reviews here are mostly positive, but there are a number of playpens that still have a high average rating based on hundreds of owner-written reviews. The Graco Pack 'n Play Portable Playard and the Chicco Lullaby LX Playard each have an average rating of four stars out of five, based on nearly 240 and nearly 280 reviews, respectively. Summer Infant's Nature's Purest Playard -- Hug Me, also has an average rating of four stars out of five, based on 255 reviews. The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light has a perfect five-star rating, based on nearly 40 reviews.
Baby Gear: Play Yards
by Contributors to Target.com
Our AssessmentThere are nearly four dozen play yards available on Target.com, and while most have just a few reviews, a handful of playpens have been reviewed more than 50 times. Overall reviews are mostly positive. The following play yards all have an average rating of 4.5 stars out of five, based on more than 50 reviews each: Graco Newborn Napper Pack 'n Play in Melbourne, Graco Pack 'n Play in Emilia, Graco Pack 'n Play Playard with Bassinet and Changer in Brentwood. The reviews for the Graco Pack 'n Play Playard with Bassinet in Kensly and Graco Pack 'n Play in Tango are two different patterns of the same model; therefore, reviews are lumped together.
Playpens Review and Compare
by Editors of Choice magazine
Our AssessmentThis Australian consumer-review magazine rates 10 different play yards for the features and accessories offered, ease of use and ease of accessing a child inside the playpen. Most of the models aren't available in the U.S., but this roundup does include the North States Industries Super Yard XT and Graco Tot Block Pack 'n Play, both of which are sold in the United States.
by Contributors to Walmart.com
Our AssessmentWalmart.com sells a variety of play yards, most of which earn just a few user reviews. The North States Industries Super Yard XT Portable Play Yard & Gate is an exception, with just under 1,200 reviews and a perfect five-star rating. The Graco Pack 'n Play Playard in Tango in the Tongo also has a perfect five-star rating, based on just under 190 reviews, while the Graco TotBlock has 380 reviews and a perfect five-star rating. There are several other models that maintain five-star ratings as well, although they don't have the volume of owner-written reviews as these two models do.
Baby Play Yards: Product Guide and Review of Styles, Features and Safety
by Editors of TheCradle.com
Our AssessmentTheCradle.com provides general buying advice and safety information related to playpens and lists editors' seven favorite play yards. We're not sure which Graco Pack 'n Play model they're referring to in this review; more than one style fits the description provided here. Individual reviews and selection criteria are not provided, however, which would make this site's recommendations more valuable.
Best Infant Activity Centers
by Carley Roney
Our AssessmentThis review by TheBump.com's cofounder and editor-in-chief is related to baby activity centers, rather than play yards specifically, but Roney does include recommendations for two play yards in her list. The Graco Pack 'n Play Playard is easy to set up and tear down, Roney says, and its size allows room for toys to be placed inside. The Combi Jazz Play Yard Deluxe, on the other hand, isn't as roomy, but offers dangling toys, music and vibration, in addition to having changing table and bassinet attachments.

Our AssessmentAmong the 47 pages of products that appear in the search results for play yards, most of the playpens haven't been reviewed at the time of our visit. There are a few products with enough reviews to make a visit worthwhile; however, it's necessary to scroll through many pages in order to find those that have a number of reviews. For example, the North States Industries Superyard XT Play Gate has over 25 reviews with an average rating of four stars out of five, and the Pack 'n Play has accumulated over 185 owner-written reviews, with an average rating of four stars out of five, although these reviews aren't for any specific Pack 'n Play model. It's not possible to sort the search results by the number of reviews, which would make this site much more user-friendly.
by Contributors to Viewpoints.com
Our AssessmentAbout a dozen play yards are reviewed on Viewpoints.com, but at the time of our visit, most had received only one or two reviews. One exception is the Graco Pack 'n Play Portable Playard, with an average rating of 4.53 out of five, based on 55 reviews, although the reviews are not for any specific Graco Pack 'n Play model.
The Best Play Yard, Ever!
by "Mrs. Izzy"
Our AssessmentThis blog features an individual product review of the North States Industries Super Yard XT Play Yard. Reviewer "Mrs. Izzy" has nothing but positive feedback for the Super Yard, highly recommending it for parents of multiples. She does recommend purchasing the extension, which adds to the cost, but she says the enclosed area with extension can accommodate herself, her husband, their 1-year-old twins and 3-year-old son comfortably.
