Update May 2010: This model has been discontinued. Please see our report on portable air conditioners for up-to-date reviews.
The Amcor ALW 12000E is less expensive than most other 12,000-BTU portable air conditioners, and it can cool up to 350 square feet. It has a remote control, two-speed fan, dehumidifier and digital controls. Some of the condensate can be expelled through the exhaust hose, but you'll still occasionally have to empty a collection tank. The main downside, reviews say, is noise.
There are not many reviews for the Amcor ALW 12000E, but a handful of owners at Amazon.com and Epinions.com give it mostly positive comments. Air-Conditioner-America.com is the only site that tests portable air conditioners for cooling performance, but the owner-written comments are still the best source of information about this particular model.
