The EdgeStar Koldfront PAC8000S is one of the least expensive portable air conditioners on the market, and it receives a large number of recommendations -- almost 200 -- from owners posting reviews to retailer websites. This 8,000-BTU air conditioner can cool a room of up to about 200 square feet (about the size of a typical bedroom) and includes a remote control, a dehumidifier-only function and a digital thermostat. It does not require manual draining because water is exhausted through the air pipe. We found an average number of complaints about noise. If you need more cooling power, the larger EdgeStar Extreme Cool AP12000S (*Est. $370) also gets very good reviews.
As with most portable air conditioners, review sources for the EdgeStar Koldfront PAC8000S are limited. There are about 170 reviews at Buzzillions.com, and this unit earns an average of 4 stars (out of 5) from owners. This model is not covered in professional reviews.
