The Sharp CV-P12LX can cool up to 400 square feet, and it is reputedly one of the quietest models in its size range. This 11,500-Btu model removes all condensate through the main exhaust hose, so there is no need to empty out a water pan. The Sharp can also be used as a dehumidifier and as a three-speed fan. The unit includes a remote control with temperature display, but you should be aware that this remote is the only way to control the Sharp air conditioner; there aren't any controls on the unit itself. Although this unit is quieter than most, it's also expensive. Reviewers seem to prefer the Royal Sovereign ARP1000ES (*Est. $500) overall, but that model only cools up to 200 square feet.

The most helpful reviews for the Sharp CV-P12LX portable air conditioner can be found from owners posting on Amazon.com, Epinions.com, Buzzillions.com and Newegg.com. Some of the reviews at Amazon.com are particularly detailed and provide a good glimpse of the model's performance.
