Big waste of money, September 8, 2009
If you can get it to run, it's very noisy. I got it to run at first start once. Most times it took 1.5 to 2 hours to start. You have to wait 5 to 10 minutes between each try, so it was very aggravating having this unit occupy your time for up to 2 hours to get it to start. Not worth the money. Worst purchase I ever made. I only gave it one star because Amazon won't let me give no stars.
Great air conditioner, August 17, 2009

We too have casement windows so choices are limited. At first, we didn't quite know how to install for our particular casements but we figured it out but adapting an old screen. I have had this unit now for over 2 years and it still works great. Some reviewers have mentioned the lack of switches on the unit, but I haven't found that to be a problem, there is a place for the remote on the unit so, that's where we keep it. I also like the design of the unit. It looks good and is easy to move around and store until next season. Others have also mentioned it's quiet and others that it's not quiet. First, all air conditioners are noisy. You either have compressor noise or just the moving of air noise. I find this unit to be pretty quiet. Is it library quiet? Well, it is not, but it's pretty quiet when you compare it to other air conditioners. I don't have a problem sleeping with it on. Until someone gets around to inventing a tiny, ductless, cheap and completely quiet air conditioner, I will be very happy with this model. In fact, we were so happy with the first one, we bought a second a year ago--for the third floor, and all is good--no problems--fairly quiet, efficient cool air. I should mention that there are several options for running the unit--you can run it as a fan--and as an exhaust fan, you can run just the dehumidifier--often useful for those really humid days, you can run the ionizer--which I think has something to do with purifying the air and of course as an air conditioner--with various fan speeds etc. Good unit, I would definitely buy again.

Sharp has HORRENDOUS customer service., June 23, 2009

Ordered this and it arrived broken. Seven weeks later I still do not have a working unit as Sharp procrastinated on the repair, then decided that it had to be replaced, then sent the wrong unit. No one at customer service knows what's going on and I have to wait on hold for 40 minutes each time before someone tells me they'll call back -- and then they never do. Worst experience I've ever had with a company -- and this is a very cumbersome and important item in one's home. Absolutely stay away from Sharp. I see another reviewer had a similar experience.

Pathetic Packaging!! Adequate performance, June 20, 2009

I am replacing a Sunpentown portable AC because of the noise it makes while running. This model intrigued me because of the 39db rating and the movable louvers. When received, the package wasn't damaged, but it was packed in some of the worse recycled cardboard on the planet!! The unit was set into a flimsy styrofoam (probably also recycled material) base that was all broken. The outside box was stapled to this flimsy base. Two straps held the base to the top. Incredibly poor packaging. Although the packaging was not pierced or crushed, it had apparently been dinged enough that the front plastic cover & louvers popped apart. I cannot get them back together. Ironically, the weight - 97lbs- is printed on the top of the box. This packaging cannot protect a pair of sneakers let alone a sensitive mechanical item. It is working well, but I'm a bit wary if it got jostled too much in shipping & problems will show up later. It is quiet and instantly blew frigid air. I like the auto fan setting where it ramps up to get the temp under control, then back to low & slow. A simple cardboard or virgin styrofoam collar around the middle of the unit to keep the box from being caved in during shipping would be 1000% better. C'mon, LG - here is a perfect opening to blow Sharp out of the water on another appliance!

It worked great and then . . . . !, February 28, 2009

The air conditioner was very quiet and worked pretty good all season (July through early September in Seattle) and then suddenly a strong burnt electrical smell came out of the unit. I unplugged it immediately and readied the unit for return - as it was still on warranty. Before placing it in my car to return, I tipped it to drain the water out. Big design flaw! The plastic drain spigot is located at the bottom - just out of view if you are not on your hands and knees. Tip the unit slightly to drain and the weight breaks the drain spigot off! It did not look easy to fix! I was glad I discovered this after the unti had already burned up inside!
