I got one of these for myself many months ago. Then I got another for my daughter. Unfortunately, mine was stolen. I got it through one of the Amazon stores for under $50.00, brand new. It looks just… like this one. The model number is the same. So why the ridiculous, inexplicable, plain ol' wrong spike in price? That said...I do love the thing. This is my second Sony ATRAC. I got the first years ago, and it finally fell apart after years of play, hours every single day. I used it so much, the silver finish wore off. The little black piece that holds the CD on came off. Even then, I pushed it back on occasionally and used it for months until it finally just wouldn't stay on. So I borrowed one of the kids cheapos for awhile. I couldn't stand the sound quality. So when I started looking to replace mine, I had no other thought than to get another Sonly ATRAC. My first one had been dropped, stepped on, flung across the car (before I put a CD player in my car), and otherwise abused. It just kept on playing and rarely, if ever, even skipped. I remember one time, on a particularly curvy road through the mountains, it was flung off of the seat onto the floor and just sat there, playing as though nothing had happened, until I could retrieve it.
On this one, the TV reception is good and the radio is good. Unfortunately, the weather radio has a very limited channel listing, and in our remote area picks up nothing... The ATRAC software is very easy to use. I can put a whole group of, or specific genre of music on one disc. That way if I'm in the mood for Jazz, or chill, or what ever, I can take a whole slew of music with me, without taking my precious CD library out into the cold, harsh world. Unfortunately, I had difficulty downloading the software (I'm not the best at this sort of thing, so it is probably just me). Fortunately, I had my old ATRAC disc from the first one and it still works great. So, if you can, skip the cheapo discount store offerings and get this. You'll actually be able to hear music the way the musicians and producers intended. You won't be disappointed.
