BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light

Best portable crib

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Included carrying case with handles
  • Wide base for stability
Cons
  • Expensive
  • No shoulder strap

The BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light is a hands-down favorite among both professional and consumer review sources. While it's expensive, reviewers consistently agree that it's worth the price. At just 11 pounds and with its included carrying case with handles, this portable crib is convenient for plane and car travel. It assembles and folds down compactly in a cinch, according to reviewers, and it can perform double duty as a safe place for your baby to play during outdoor excursions. The mattress cover and bed fabric are machine-washable. Special BabyBjorn travel crib sheets are available (*Est. $40), but most reviewers say any portable crib sheet will fit and others are less expensive. On the downside, several owners say they wish the carrying case had a shoulder strap instead of just handles, and the size of the carrying case won't officially qualify as an air travel carry-on bag. A less-expensive alternative is the Graco Travel Lite Crib (*Est. $90), a model that's a lot heavier (20 pounds) and not as fancy looking.

The best comparative review of the BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light appears in The New York Times, in which an outdoors-enthusiast family tests five travel cribs on a camping trip. The downside to this review is that it includes the opinions of just one family, so we found owner-written reviews at Amazon.com equally as useful. Parents.com and About.com each feature brief reviews of the BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light and one detailed individual product review on ZRecommends.com offers a useful demo video.
