I expected a toy...but this thing is great!, March 12, 2009

The NP100 gets great reviews, but I never take it too seriously because the reviews always say "For the price...". I bought one because I just wanted something that would project a movie onto my wall. Of course, I'd love to spend three times more and get an awesome projector...but I just don't have that kind of cash. So, I went ahead and bought it. Man! Seriously! The picture is GREAT! I use it for DVD's, XBOX 360, my laptop...and the picture is wonderful. WAY WAY better than I had hoped! The colors are great, it is bright, the lines on the picture are sharp, it's just so good! I'm completely happy with this thing. I mean, somebody may give it a low score because it may not match up to a professional projector, but I give it five stars because I got way more than I thought I would for this price. Trust me, if you are just hoping to get something decent, BUY THIS because you will end up with an awesome projector. I couldn't be happier with this NEC NP100.

Our Sources

1. PCMag.com

PC Magazine only gives the NEC NP100 a middling rating since it's not feature-rich or particularly innovative. However, M. David Stone says that the projector "gets the basics right" at a great price for those on a budget. The magazine does note the projector's rainbow effect as a downside.

2. Laptop Magazine

Laptop magazine grants Editors' Choice recognition to the NEC NP100, saying that it's not the first sub-$500 projector, but arguing that it is the most impressive. Rich Malloy says "with strong contrast, plenty of brightness, and a good picture, it's an excellent budget model." One downside noted was the NECNP100's long cool down time of two minutes.

3. PC World

PC Magazine applauds the NEC NP100, citing a number of image quality tests in which the projector proved to display well rendered color graphics and sharp text. While some niceties -- such as an included carrying case -- are omitted, it's nevertheless concluded "the NP100 is a good bargain for a projector capable of displaying bright and attractive images."
