Consumer Reports tests the LG DP781 portable DVD player along with four other models. This player is also included in a hands-on evaluation at Slate.com. We found helpful and generally favorable owner reviews at Amazon.com and CNet.com.

Reviewers say the LG DP781 portable DVD player offers the best value in its 8-inch screen size. The main knock is the audio quality: Very few portable DVD players of any kind draw raves for their built-in speakers, but some owners say the LG DP781 is lacking even when you use headphones. The consensus is that the 8-inch, 800x600-pixel, swiveling widescreen is excellent, and the LG DP781 can play a variety of video formats. Tests show that the rechargeable battery can go about five hours, and the one-year warranty is much longer than you'll find on cheap players. You could save a bit by choosing the 7-inch Coby TF-DVD7107 (*est. $95) instead, but reviewers don't like it nearly as much as the LG DP781.
