The 1,600-watt (2,000-surge-watt) Honda EU2000iA is one of the quietest portable generators available. Users say it is easy to carry and ideal for camping or tailgating. It can also power a few household appliances during a power outage, and its clean electricity makes it the safest choice for running electronics. In economy mode the engine speed is automatically adjusted to match the electrical load. If you don't want to spend quite this much and don't need an inverter generator, the 3,250-watt Generac 5724 (*Est. $450) has more power for much less money.

We found positive reviews of the Honda EU2000iA based on comparison testing in Field & Stream, QST and Camping Life magazines. Owners provide their own ratings and reviews, overwhelmingly favorable, at eHam.net and ReviewCentre.com.
