The 2,000-watt (2,400-surge-watt) Yamaha EF2400iS portable inverter generator gets great reviews from owners and experts alike. It's very quiet, which makes it suited for camping and tailgating, despite its weight. (It does take two people to carry it, according to one reviewer.) It also has enough power to run essential household appliances during a power outage. The Yamaha EF2400iS has good fuel economy, based on tests by experts, and is covered by a two-year warranty. If you want an inverter generator but don't want to spend this much, experts recommend the 2,000-watt Honeywell HW2000i (*Est. $500), but it's not as quiet as the Yamaha.
We found reviews of the Yamaha EF2400iS in Field & Stream, QST and Camping Life magazines, all based on comparison testing. The online retailer ElectricGeneratorsDirect.com reviews this model as well, and owners post ratings and reviews there.
