The 2,000-watt Yamaha EF2400iSHC portable inverter generator surges to 2,400 watts. It's very quiet, which makes it suited for camping and tailgating, despite its 75-pound weight. It also has enough power to run essential household appliances during a power outage, and according to Yamaha, the high-current surge wattage "will start most 13,500 Btu high efficiency RV air conditioners." The high current feature does mean, however, that you can't daisy chain it with another Yamaha generator to get more wattage. Experts say the Yamaha EF2400iSHC has good fuel economy, and it's covered by a three-year warranty. If you want an inverter generator but don't want to spend this much, experts recommend the slightly smaller 1,600-watt Yamaha EF2000iS (*Est. $1,000) .
We found reviews of the Yamaha EF2400iS (now the EF2400iSHC) in Field & Stream, QST and Camping Life magazines, all based on comparison testing. The online retailer ElectricGeneratorsDirect.com recommends and reviews the EF2400iSHC, and owners post ratings and reviews there.
