Cuisinart CPC-600 Pressure Cooker

Electric pressure cooker

Pros
  • Two pressure settings
  • Built-in thermostat
  • Programmable timer and cooking options
  • Automatic pressure release
  • Dishwasher-safe cooking pot
Cons
  • Only available in 6-quart capacity
  • Difficult to clean exterior and lid
  • No steamer basket
  • Some reports of mechanical problems

For a more worry-free approach to pressure cooking, the Cuisinart CPC-600 Pressure Cooker requires less monitoring than a stovetop pressure cooker. Plus, it has the added benefit of electronic features, such as a programmable cooking timer and functions for browning, sauteing, simmering or warming. As with any electric appliance, however, there are reports of faulty electronics by owners. Many were also disappointed by the poor customer service from Cuisinart, which only offers a three-year warranty. If you want a model that's simpler to operate, reviews point to the stovetop Fagor Duo 8-Quart Pressure Cooker (*Est. $110).

Like the Fagor Duo, the Cuisinart has two pressure settings and an automatic pressure release. Experts praise its cooking performance, but warn that the lid can be tricky to lock in place. Reviewers note that the dishwasher-safe cooking pot is easy to clean, but all the crevices in the lid and exterior housing are not. The Cuisinart CPC-600 is only available in a 6-quart capacity, while stovetop models come in a range of sizes.

Numerous publications have included the Cuisinart CPC-600 Pressure Cooker in comprehensive reviews. It fares well in reviews from the Good Housekeeping Research Institute, Fine Cooking magazine, Cook's Illustrated magazine and Australia's Choice magazine. We also turned to Amazon.com, Macys.com and Cooking.com to gauge owner opinion.

3. Cook's Illustrated Magazine

Editors of Cook's Illustrated magazine compare the Cuisinart CPC-600 Pressure Cooker and three other electric pressure cookers to their favorite stovetop model. Testers say the electric models were slower to sear meat and saute onions, but it was the problem of getting the lid to seal correctly that led to mostly lower ratings.

4. Choice magazine

Australia's Choice magazine editors test eight models of pressure cookers with a 6-quart capacity. The Cuisinart CPC-600 Pressure Cooker is included in this test. Cooking performance is based on the ability to turn lamb shanks and dried soup mix into a meal. The ease of locking the lid, using the controls and cleaning after disassembling the unit accounted for 60 percent of each product's overall score.
