For big jobs like cleaning large decks, siding and even stripping paint, you'll need the power of a gas pressure washer instead of an electric model. The Karcher G 2600 -- now replaced by the Karcher G 2650 (*Est. $450) -- has enough power for most tasks, including washing a large deck or washing siding. The trade-off for the moderate price is that the Honda GC engine doesn't rank as high in reviews as a Honda GX. Nor does the axial pump earn high marks as the best, most durable and reparable type. Reviews say you can spend a little more and get a better CAT triplex pump with the 2009 Ridgid RD80701 (*Est. $550).

We found useful reviews of the Karcher G 2600 gas pressure washer and its successor at PressureWashersDirect.com, a retail site whose experienced staff picks the best models in specific price ranges. ConsumerReports.org tests an earlier but similar model, and a handful of owners review the Karcher G 2600 at Amazon.com.

Our Sources

1. PressureWashers Direct.com

In 2008, staff at this large online retailer recommended the Karcher G 2600 as one of the best residential gas-powered pressure washers -- good for pretty much all tasks. It gets mixed reviews from the few owners rating it here, and the newer Karcher G 2650 (*Est. $450) has replaced it as a recommended gas pressure washer for homeowners.

2. ConsumerReports.org

This review tests an older version of the Karcher G2600 against 14 other pressure washers, gas and electric. Editors use hands-on tests to rate each one for cleaning speed, ease of use and how well each can remove stains. Reliability isn't addressed.

3. Amazon.com

The handful of owners reviewing the Karcher G 2600 here give it mixed ratings. Owners say it's easy to assemble and use, and powerful enough for washing siding, but that repairs are costly and require taking it to a Karcher center.
