The Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II is designed mostly for photo printing and gets good reviews in that regard. Canon says the Mark II's print engine is three times faster than the original Pro9000, but reviewers are divided on how accurate that is. Some find the Mark II quick, but others complain that it prints slowly. The Mark II uses eight separate dye-based ink cartridges, which results in very good pictures, though some reviewers find better results when they tweak images with photo software beforehand. The Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II is a medium-format printer that can produce prints up to 13 inches by 19 inches -- a capability rare in its price range. If you don't need to print that large but still want an exceptional photo printer, we found great reviews for the midpriced Epson Stylus Photo R1900 (*Est. $300).
The Pixma Pro9000 Mark II has a fair amount of coverage. PrinterInfo.com and Imaging-Resource.com both have long reviews of the printer, though they disagree on its merits. British sites TrustedReviews.com and PC Pro also evaluate the Mark II in useful, if less comprehensive, reviews. Amazon.com's base of user reviews is sizable and overwhelmingly favorable.

Reviewer Mike Pasini praises the Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II, saying it's a faster version of the Pro9000 he liked so much in an earlier review. Now, he says, "the Canon Pro9000 Mark II is our favorite printer." Pasini says the Mark II "is capable of subtle variations in tone and color that, printed on a variety of fine art media, simply astonished us."

PC Pro gives the Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II a Recommended designation in this brief review. Dave Stevenson has nothing but praise for the Mark II's output, calling print quality superb and saying it rivals commercial print services in price. Unlike other reviewers, Stevenson finds the print speeds more than fast enough. His only quibble is over the high cost of the printer itself.
