For those who want the biggest screen size at the lowest possible cost, rear-projection HDTVs, like Mitsubishi's 65-inch WD-65737, offer a tempting proposition. Blacks aren't as deep as those in better HDTVs using plasma and LCD technology, but they are acceptable. Colors, on the other hand, are terrific. You can't hang the TV on a wall as you can flat-panel HDTVs, but the cabinets are thinner and smaller than the RPTVs and conventional TVs of just a few years ago. Off-angle viewing could be better, but the WD-65737's picture quality stands up well in bright rooms. Connectivity, while not exceptional, is certainly adequate. Bells and whistles are few, though the TV is 3D-ready -- for those who are willing to add a relatively powerful PC along with a 3D glasses kit (*Est. $200). Other screen sizes are available, including the 82-inch Mitsubishi WD-82737 (Discontinued), the biggest HDTV available screen size outside of a front projector.
Reviews of rear-projection HDTVs are few and far between, but CNET steps up with a reasonably detailed and testing-based report on the WD-65737. User reviews are also helpful, and a good assortment can be found at TigerDirect.com and Amazon.com. The long owners' thread at AVSForum.com is also worth a read.

1. CNET
CNET comes through with the best -- and to our knowledge, the only -- professional report on the 65-inch Mitsubishi WC-65737. Light blacks are the biggest turn-off, though a few additional bobbles are mentioned. Value and accurate colors are noteworthy pluses. Though picture quality is described as "decent," the review says that the biggest reason to go for this rear-projection HDTV is to get "as much screen for as little money as possible."
Review: Mitsubishi WD- 65737, David Katzmaier, July 7, 2009
TigerDirect.com's user-written reviews aren't the most detailed, nor is the site particularly easy to navigate. However, we found more owner reports on the Mitsubishi WD-65737 than for any other TV, which makes this a good destination for finding out how happy buyers are after the sale. After more than 25 reviews, the answer is very happy, and this RPTV garners a rating of 4.8 out of 5 at last look.

3. Amazon.com
While there are far fewer reviews of the Mitsubishi WD-65737 here than at TigerDirect.com, they're far more detailed -- with some write-ups approaching the caliber of professional reviews. Again, all users that weigh in give the WD-65737 a thumbs-up, with no rating below 4 out of 5 stars.
