The 61-inch Samsung HL-61A750 is far and away the most reviewed rear-projection TV currently on the market. CNet.com puts forth the best effort with a review that's appropriately detailed and compares the TV to its current competitors as well as to one top-performing older model. BigPictureBigSound.com's review is also worthwhile and thorough. ConsumerGuide.com's review focuses on the television's features, and there appears to be no bench testing. User feedback can be found at many sites, including Amazon.com.
When it comes to rear-projection TV, critics and users are nearly unanimous in saying that the 61-inch Samsung HL61A750 is a top pick. Though more expensive than other rear projection TVs, critics say no plasma or LCD television can deliver this good a 1080p picture at anywhere near this price. Unlike other DLP projectors, the Samsung TV uses an LED-driven light engine that eliminates the issue of lamp replacement. While some critics have noted that image quality can be on the soft side, it is otherwise praised as having blacks and colors that are among the most accurate of any TV. Features include the ability to watch movies and play games in 3D, though that requires an extra-cost kit (*est. $150). If you are on a tighter budget, the 61-inch Samsung HL-61L650 (*est. $1,500) uses a traditional lamp and color wheel but is a good performer and a strong value.
