Although not every critic agrees, most say that the Sony Bravia VPL-VW60 home theater projector delivers picture quality that leaves its more modestly priced competition in the dirt. Blacks are the deepest of any projector at or below the Sony VPL-VW60's price range, creating a film-like image that is crisp and compelling. The projector is packed with features, including tons of color-management and picture controls, although factory color settings are not the best. While they are both outperformed by the Sony VPL-VW60, the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080UB (*Est. $3,000) and the Panasonic PT-AE2000U both produce a great 1080p image in their own right, and cost considerably less.

There are plenty of reviews of the Sony Bravia VPL-VW60. ProjectorReviews.com features richly detailed and illustrated reviews with lots of photos. UltimateAVmag.com and Sound & Vision magazine do nearly as good a job, but they review fewer projectors. CNET reviews a variety of projectors, but the reports don't delve as deeply into details.
