If you rarely turn on your broiler or cook over high heat, the Broan Economy 403001 is one of the most inexpensive vented range hoods available and a good choice. Owners say it performs surprisingly well. Range hoods in this price range are usually very loud, operating at 10 sones or more (one sone is about as loud as a running refrigerator), but the Broan Economy runs at a reasonably quiet 6.5 sones on high speed while drawing 160 cubic feet per minute (CFM). Of course, you won't get a lot of features at this price, but the range hood does come in an array of widths (from 21 inches to 42 inches) and colors (white, biscuit, almond, black and stainless steel). If you use a gas range or generate a lot of smoke and steam when cooking, reviews say the more powerful Kenmore 52340 (*Est. $200) may be a better option.
The Broan Economy 403001 isn't included in the professional tests we found, but it does receive quite a few user reviews at online retailers like ABT.com, AJMadison.com and Amazon.com. Note that some of the reviews below refer to slightly different model numbers in the Broan 40000 series. These models are identical to the 403001 except in terms of color and/or width.
