Broan-NuTone Allure III QS330

The Broan-NuTone Allure III QS330 is among the most recommended range hoods on the Internet. Compared to most under-cabinet models, the Allure III is loaded with features, including boost mode, heat sensor, halogen lights, delayed shutoff and filter cleaning reminder. It also has an attractive curved-case design and a glossy finish, and is available in several widths and colors as well as stainless steel. But the Allure III is lacking in one important area: performance. In professional tests, this range hood was one of the least effective at removing smoke from the air, despite its relatively powerful 380-cubic-feet-per-minute blower. Owners blame two design flaws for this problem: the curved case, which allows smoke and steam to easily escape from the uptake vent, and the vent's location at the rear of the canopy, which may make it difficult for the range hood to draw in hot air and steam coming from pots on the front burners. Regardless of why the Allure III underperforms, this relatively expensive range hood is probably not the best choice unless you really want the look and features but don't cook much. The Kenmore 52340 (*Est. $200) isn't as stylish, but it does have excellent performance and costs almost $150 less.
