The GE Profile JV936DSS, rated at 600 cubic feet per minute (CFM), performs well in tests and is recommended by ConsumerGuide.com, but it costs more than some wall-mounted and under-cabinet models with similar performance. This range hood also doesn't include a chimney, so unless you plan to install it under a soffit or cabinet mounted close to the ceiling, you'll need to pay an extra $120 to hide the ductwork. It includes dimmable halogen lighting and four fan speeds, but lacks other extras such as a thermostat control and delayed shutoff. As for appearance, the GE Profile has a plain design that (when installed without the optional chimney) looks rather like a very tall under-cabinet range hood. Like most wall-mounted range hoods, this model is sold only in stainless steel, and there is also a 36-inch version available. If you need a range hood that includes a chimney, you might consider the Atlas Cavaliere-Euro SV218B230WM (*Est. $450), but this range hood has not been covered in any professional tests.
