This type of range hood is generally the most stylish choice for an under-cabinet installation, but the Whirlpool Gold doesn't have the sleek look slide-out models are known for. The combination of brushed aluminum trim and fluorescent lighting give this range hood a rather strange appearance that resembles an office copier or X-ray machine more than a kitchen appliance. As with most slide-out range hoods, the Whirlpool Gold requires professional installation unless you're handy with a jigsaw or router -- a portion of the cabinet must be cut out to accommodate the casing. Still, it's quite a bit less expensive than most slide-out range hoods and the fluorescent light won't become hot to the touch like halogen or incandescent bulbs. This range hood is worth a look if you really want a slide-out range hood and don't mind its eccentric look.
