Electric coil range
- Inexpensive
- Self-cleaning
- No warming drawer
- Small oven window
- No stainless steel option
March 2009. If you want a 30-inch coil-top electric range at minimal expense, reviews suggest the Hotpoint RB757WHWW. While many consumers prefer smoothtop electric ranges because they cook faster and are easier to clean, repairs on coil-tops are easier and less expensive. Experts say cheap ranges still cook well. The oven is self-cleaning, but the Hotpoint RB757WHWW lacks features found in more expensive ranges (a storage drawer rather than a warming drawer, for example). Some reviews say the oven window is too small. The Hotpoint RB757WHWW is available in white, black and bisque, but not in stainless steel. If you want a smoothtop electric range, reviews vote for the Kenmore 96112 (*est. $530) as a good choice in its price range.
Consumer Reports magazine tests ranges and ovens extensively, rating models on heating consistency and ease of use. Results of a survey by J.D. Power and Associates show good general information on brand satisfaction but not of specific ranges. There are too few reviews at Epinions.com and HomeDepot.com for a fair consensus, but they're worth a look.

About 15,000 users participated in a survey about kitchen appliances. No individual models are rated, so this report is helpful mainly for getting a general sense of broad owner satisfaction with various brands. Hotpoint gets below-average scores, except for price, which is among the best.
