The Hotpoint RGB745DEPWH is an affordable gas range that gets good reviews from users, though its performance in professional tests is only so-so. Tests show that the basic 4.9-cubic-foot oven bakes well and the cooktop performance is reasonable, but the broiler is unimpressive. This range does not include many of the features found on more expensive models, such as a convection oven or a warming drawer, but it does have a self-cleaning cycle and sealed gas burners. The range has four burners only, and they're covered by steel grates (rather than cast iron), which some users say chip and discolor easily. Hotpoint also gets lower marks than other range manufacturers in J.D. Power and Associates' most recent satisfaction survey. If you can afford to spend more, the top-rated LG LRG3095ST (*Est. $1,500) has excellent cooking performance and extra features such as convection.
