March 2009. The Viking VDSC530-4B is a professional-style dual-fuel range with a sturdy, industrial design. It has a large convection oven, but no warming drawer (or even storage drawer), and four burners. Larger (36- and 48-inch) versions of this range are also available and can be customized with different burner arrangements. All versions are available in stainless steel and 22 colored finishes, ranging from plum to bright red to iridescent blue. Professional tests of this range are unimpressive, considering its price, but it did perform better than other dual-fuel ranges in Good Housekeeping's test. However, editors note that six electric ranges outperformed it. If you want a modern-looking range but aren't stuck on getting a dual-fuel model, consider the less expensive Electrolux EW30EF65GS (*est. $2,400), an electric smoothtop range.

The Viking VDSC530-4B was tested by both Consumer Reports and Good Housekeeping magazine, and it receives a Best Buy award from Consumer Guide. We didn't find enough owner reviews of this model to form a clear picture, however.

Consumer Guide gives the Viking a Best Buy award, but the review appears to be based on features and customization options rather than performance.
