Although most side-by-side refrigerators have, at best, lukewarm reviews from users, the GE GSH25JFXWW is highly rated at retailer websites. It has spill-proof glass shelves, a filtered through-the-door ice and water dispenser and a nice variety of storage options. Users posting reviews to retailer websites do have a few gripes, however; some say the ice and water dispenser is tricky to use without making a mess, and a couple of owners are less than pleased that the stainless-steel version has black sides. While we did read a couple of reports of defective refrigerators that never worked or stopped working within a few weeks, the GE refrigerator has fewer reliability complaints than other side-by-side models with through-the-door ice and water. It's available in white, bisque, black and (for about $200 more) stainless steel. If you can afford to spend more, the French-door Samsung RF266AEWP (*Est. $1,450) is quieter and has better owner feedback; its ice and water dispenser are located inside the refrigerator, however.
