The GE Profile PFE29PSDSS is a 28.6-cubic-foot, French-door refrigerator that gets rave reviews from both professionals and users. Though not as large as our best-rated LG LFX31925SW (Est. $2,450) , it has one feature the LG lacks: a "precise fill" waster dispenser that can fill your glass automatically. This fridge gets great scores in professional tests, but real-world users have some complaints about its noise level and durability.
Auto-fill is a great feature. The GE Profile PFE29PSDSS is packed with high-end features. In addition to the usual adjustable glass shelves and door bins, it features a sliding shelf to accommodate taller items, three baskets in the freezer drawer, and a separate bottom compartment that can be set to the temperature of your choice. The fridge also has digital controls, LED lighting, an open-door sensor and a Sabbath mode. The feature users love most, however, is the external ice and water dispenser, which can sense the size of any container and fill it up without needing to have it held in place.
Fantastic test results. The GE Profile PFE29PSDSS gets outstanding results in professional tests. Reviewed.com gives it top marks for temperature control, moisture retention and energy efficiency. Its only shortcoming is that it's a bit slow to bring food down to freezing temperature. Real-world users, however, have some more serious complaints. Many owners say that the refrigerator is noisy: While some say it's no more than a persistent hum, others compare it to a jet taking off and say it can be heard all over the house. There are also complaints about durability, most of them involving leakage from the water dispenser, and some users say their problems persisted after multiple service calls.
Tricky ice maker. Although users love the GE Profile PFE29PSDSS's ice and water dispenser, several say that it doesn't work perfectly. Reviewers say the sensor can't always detect the height of a container, so if you don't hold your glass in place, the dispenser may spill ice or water out over the top. Also, several owners complain that the ice maker's capacity is too small; one review says it produces barely "enough to fill two tall glasses," while another says, "You need to empty the ice maker into the freezer storage bin before a party to have enough ice."
Futuristic looks. The GE Profile PFE29PSDSS is sleek and modern, with an all-stainless-steel exterior and a curved front panel. Matthew Zahnzinger of Reviewed.com says, "A curved front may not fit every kitchen, but it's far less boring," and user reviews call the design "polished" and "gorgeous." Another nice touch is the display screen on the water dispenser, into which you can upload your own photos (though one review says it's not that easy to figure out how). The blue-gray LED lights inside the fridge, along with the see-through plastic bins, give the interior a clean and bright look.
The GE Profile PFE29PSDSS is the top-rated refrigerator at Reviewed.com, with a perfect 10 points out of 10. Its temperature control and moisture retention are superb, and reviewer Matthew Zahnzinger raves about its capacity, efficiency and styling. His only quibble is that it's a bit slow at freezing fresh food.
