The 21-cubic-foot Maytag M1TXEGMYW is commonly described in reviews as a good, basic top-freezer refrigerator without a lot of bells and whistles. It does include adjustable glass shelves and storage bins, humidity-controlled crispers and an ice maker, but these are fairly standard on new units. It has just a single temperature control for both fridge and freezer sections. Nonetheless, professional tests show that it provides very good temperature control, as well as excellent energy efficiency. Its only shortcoming is the crisper drawers, which left produce limp in tests.
Users generally find the M1TXEGMYW spacious and reliable, but are split over its noise level; both praise for its quietness and complaints about its loudness are common. This refrigerator is available in white, black and stainless-steel finishes, and comes with a one-year warranty. If you prefer the convenience of a French-door refrigerator, the LG LFX25976SW (*Est. $2,200) rates well and is loaded with features, but it's considerably more expensive. The bottom-freezer LG LDC22720SW (*Est. $1,400) offers a middle ground, with an in-between price and fewer features.
