The 28.5 cu. ft. Samsung RH29H9000SR is one of the bigger side-by-side refrigerators on the market. Professional testers say it is quiet, energy efficient, and does a good to great job of holding its temperature. The door-in-door design is visually attractive, and ultimately practical -- at least if you are willing to live with the limited shelf adjustment it allows.ProsSpacious, Quiet, Door-in-door design, Stainless finish availableConsLimited shelf flexibility, Poor crisper performance
Door-in-door, and more. The hype around the Samsung RH29H9000SR is its glass door within a door. Open the refrigerator section's outer door and most of the refrigerator contents stay nice and frosty behind a glass inner door, while two pull-out bins give quick access to your most-used products. Storage is otherwise quite practical as well, with one exception -- the pull-out bins' locations are fixed, and that limits the amount of interior shelf adjustment. "Both the fridge and freezer compartments get one alternative shelf slot each, and there are no adjustable slots on either door whatsoever," says Reviewed.com. The refrigerator also features an external ice and water dispenser, digital controls and LED lighting.
Good all-around performance. In professional tests, the Samsung RH29H9000SR gets great scores for energy efficiency and noise level. As far as temperature performance we see mildly differing feedback. Some rate it as merely very good, others as terrific. DigitalTrends.com notes that the fridge had trouble holding a set temperature, but adds that this was done under conditions where the door was opened once every half hour or more and allows that performance might be better if it were left alone longer. Reviewed.com hates the crispers, but loves everything else. The reviewers there find a rare level of temperature consistency: "The RH29H9000SR managed to cool food almost precisely down to 37ºF, and the freezer was cold and consistent enough that temperatures never went above 0ºF, ever." A third expert reviewer simply describes temperature control as "solid." While we saw a few complaints from users that the fridge had trouble reaching and maintaining a 40 degree temperature, most are more than happy with its performance.
Is the door-in-door concept a gimmick? That was what concerned Reviewed.com's Matthew Zahnzinger the first time he saw it on the floor of a trade show. No need to worry, he concludes: "After living with it for a week, however, we found that it really did make it easier to access fresh foods." Like every side-by-side, both compartments of the Samsung RH29H9000SR are narrow and deep, so that means it can be tough to reach items located all the way in the back. That's helped a bit by the ample array of shelves, dividers and drawers to keep things organized; however, the shelves don't have a lot of adjustment options, even though they are removable for easy cleaning. However, most owners don't mind, saying this spacious fridge allows them to find a place for everything. The on-door digital touch control panel is straightforward and easy to use.
Looks good inside and out. Its stainless-steel exterior gives the Samsung RH29H9000SR a touch of class, and the finish appears to be more resistant to smudges than is typical with stainless steel, both expert and consumer reviewers say. The LED lighting shows off the fridge's contents nicely behind the glass inner door. Many of the bins and shelves are stainless steel trimmed as well. However, the downside of this fridge's high capacity is that it can be a rather massive presence with its roughly 36 inches wide by 35.25 inches deep footprint.
Samsung RH29H9000SR Refrigerator Review, Matthew Zahnzinger, July 16, 2014
The subhead on this review is "A fridge worthy of the hype," and Reviewed.com is clearly impressed, awarding the Samsung RH29H9000SR both Editors' Choice and Best of the Year honors. The door-in-door design proves to be truly useful and the stainless finish is relatively smudge-proof. Energy efficiency tests out to be excellent as well. Only subpar crispers mar its otherwise remarkable performance.

Samsung RH29H9000SR review, Ry Crist, April 15, 2015
Ry Crist is not as impressed with the Samsung RH29H9000SR. Although he agrees that the door-in-door design is convenient, he also notes that it "leads to warmer temperatures than you'd like throughout all of the in-door shelves." He praises the Samsung's attractive appearance, however, and the steady temperatures on the main shelves.
Samsung RH29H9000SR review, Matt Smith, Aug. 19, 2014
DigitalTrends.com casts another dissenting vote among expert reviewers when it comes to the Samsung RH29H9000SR. The refrigerator is called attractive, but temperature performance tests out poorer here, and the narrow and deep compartments make reaching items awkward at times.

There are fewer reviews of the Samsung RH29H9000SR at HomeDepot.com, and satisfaction is not as high. It earns an overall rating of 4.1 stars out of 5; 76 percent would recommend the fridge. Some reviews are by HomeDepot.com customers, others originate at the Samsung website. We saw a few complaints that the interior did not reach and maintain the desired temperature of 40 degrees; in those cases, Samsung customer service reached out and asked to be contacted to help troubleshoot the problem. Still, the vast majority of owners are more than satisfied.
