Good once you "break it in", October 28, 2009

Got this rice cooker and unlike most reviewers here, I don't rinse my rice (enriched, so it'd be a waste of nutrients to rinse the rice) but I didn't get any bubbling over, which was a very pleasant surprise. I did, however, find that the rice tasted soapy after first use. The pot was thoroughly rinsed so it certainly wasn't my soap. But after the 4th time, the soapy taste did not occur any more. Very strange but I'm happy now. Rice is cooked well, though not perfectly evenly fluffy.

New rice cooker from Zojirushi, September 30, 2009
After 20 years of using a Hitachi rice cooker and not being able to find a replacement, I decided to try the Zojirushi NHS-18 10-cup rice cooker. So far it is very good, the rice cooks evenly and fast. Rinse your rice well before cooking and make sure you stir it when it is almost done to avoid dryness at the bottom. If you follow those simple directions you will have nice results.

Great information online to help us make our decision on the exact model. We have large family get togethers which involve lots of food so the larger capacity was appealing. We had our other rice cooker for 24 years so we were excited to have a newer verson with the steamer capability. The steamer works quickly and is great when you have other things cooking on the stove. The package got here a day ahead of the scheduled time.

Excellence!, May 24, 2009

This rice cooker made beautiful, delicious rice the very first time I used it. Having lived in Japan for four years, I know what rice should be like. It was perfect. I am a college student, and with this rice cooker, I am creating healthy, inexpensive meals since the steamer tray means I can make delicious, healthy veggies while I make rice. Plus I love being able to start the rice, and wander off to do other things. A short while later, click-done! The people who were reporting a starchy mess coming from the cooker obviously have never cooked rice before. Rice must be washed thoroughly until the water runs clear. Then you add the rice to the to the cooker and put in however much water you need. If you wash the rice properly, you won't have any issues. My rice came from Sam's Club. They sell 25lb bags of Jasmine rice. Bulk is a better deal, and will last you a while, prepare a lot of rice like I do.
