The entry-level LawnBott LB2100 isn't the most luxurious robotic mower available, but it's recommended for the lowest running costs and a good repair record. If you have a relatively flat lawn of up to three-fourths of an acre, this quiet robotic mower offers a good balance of weight, performance and price. Once you set up an area and set the schedule, the LawnBott LB2100 handles everything else on its own, returning to its charger as needed, so it's much more convenient than the cheaper Robomow RM200 (*est. $1,400) that handles only lawns up to 2,700 square feet. Note that the LawnBott LB2100 was recalled in summer 2008 for a safety problem that's since been fixed.
We found the best review and discussions of this entry-level LawnBott mower at a retail site, Bamabots.com, where the experienced owner doesn't shy away from revealing average maintenance and repair costs or from noting drawbacks. The forum at this site is also especially useful and up to date. Another retail site, LawnBotts.com, organizes information well but doesn't note drawbacks, document testing or keep information current. The forum at Robomower.biz is also associated with LawnBotts.com, and some of the information is outdated there also.

2. ConsumerReports.org
This report doesn't detail the performance of the LawnBott mowers mainly because editors discovered what they considered a safety defect: When they lifted the LawnBott while it was on, the blade did not stop immediately. This test eventually led to a recall of the tested LawnBott LB3200 as well as the LB2100. The problem has been fixed in new models.

This forum discussion covers the free upgrades available for older LawnBott LB2100 units. The upgrades improve safety and include a "smart spiral" that helps it concentrate on more-challenging parts of the lawn.
