Fante's Wooden Rolling Pin With Tapered Ends

Pros
  • Inexpensive
  • Tapered only at ends
  • 20.5 inches long
  • Heavy
Cons
  • Dough sticks to it
  • Can crack or warp
  • Only available online

The Fante's Wooden Rolling Pin With Tapered Ends is easy to use and costs less than any other rolling pin we found -- at least until you factor in the shipping. This French rolling pin is only available online, and you'll need to add at least $6 for shipping. On the plus side, this rolling pin has a 1.75-inch diameter in the center, and the ends are tapered to 1.5 inches, which leaves a generous rolling surface. The substantial diameter and 20.5-inch length make it heavier than many other French rolling pins. Still, we found equally good reviews for the Vic Firth French Rolling Pin (*Est. $14), which initially costs more but is more widely available in stores.

The most comprehensive review of Fante's Wooden Rolling Pin With Tapered Ends is at Cook's Illustrated magazine. Editors compare it to eight other rolling pins by rolling out delicate pie pastry, sweet tart pastry and pizza dough. In a review by Cook's Country, editors compare Fante's Wooden Rolling Pin With Tapered Ends to silicone rolling pins to see which is less sticky. Because this rolling pin is only sold online by Fante's Kitchen Wares Shop, we didn't find any owner-written reviews on it.

1. Cook's Illustrated Magazine

This older review compares Fante's Wooden Rolling Pin With Tapered Ends against eight other rolling pins. Testers use the pins to roll out two types of pastry as well as pizza dough. They evaluate the rolling pins' maneuverability, leverage, effectiveness, and ease of use and comfort. Editors "highly recommend" two wooden rolling pins and don't recommend five others.

2. Cook's Country

Editors use Fante's Wooden Rolling Pin With Tapered Ends to see how it compares to silicone rolling pins. Although the silicone rolling pins are easy to clean and "didn't require as much additional flour," they say not everyone will be willing to pay the significantly higher price.
