The Mizuno Wave Alchemy has been discontinued. Reviewers suggest the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 as the best running shoe for people with flatter arches that roll inward more than normal while running. These "motion-control" shoes minimize side-to-side foot movement and can help minimize injuries to arches, heels, tendons and shins. The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 isn't an especially lightweight shoe, however, so some testers find them best for slower runners. Some users wish there were more cushioning. This shoe has now been replaced by a new model, the Wave Alchemy 8.
We found the best reviews of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 at Runner's World magazine, which road-tests running shoes for a month before reviewing them. We also found reviews at Running Times and at the U.K.-based ShoeGuide.co.uk. RoadRunnerSports.com is a retailer website, but owner reviews can be sharply critical.

Runner's World's staff review is based on a month's use by a panel of testers. Reader comments are also posted. The Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 gets a very positive assessment from testers, but there are mixed reviews from the handful of owners, and one says wearers should check for blister-causing stitching defects.

Brian Metzler, who also reviews running shoes for Outside magazine, doesn't rank products in Running Times, but products do get a short editorial review. He says testers noted that the stabilizing heel on the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 makes it difficult to exceed a moderate pace.
Review: Training Shoe: Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7, Brian Metzler, September 2007
This review is blurb-length, but Andy Barber gives the new Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 a score of 8.5 out of 10 as a "very impressive motion control shoe" that "maintains a responsive feel too."

A handful of owners post reviews of the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 and give it an average rating of 3 stars out of 5, but some critics say there isn't enough cushioning.

These awards are based on reviews elsewhere and "our own opinion," so it's hard to judge how much scrutiny was devoted to the choices. Editors say the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 7 is the best "control" shoe and note that testers say it "feels just like a normal shoe."
