It is perhaps not surprising that, given the large number of reviewers who have covered the Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanner, opinions vary wildly. The aggregated reviews, however, indicate that the V700 is a generally solid flatbed scanner that outputs top-notch photo scans. Achieving those scans is a process up for some debate; some reviewers complain of slow scan times while others rave about zippy scans; some tests revealed outstanding photo quality right out of the box while others required tweaking. A few critics laud the advanced 6,400 dpi film scan resolution, while others dismiss it as overkill. In the end, though, every reviewer ends up with excellent scans. For even more demanding users, the Epson Perfection V750-M Pro (*Est. $720) offers improved optics, antireflective glass and more.
Macworld and PCMag.com both deliver reviews of the Epson Perfection V700 flatbed scanner that include a standard rating system and the results of routine testing used in every scanner review. CNET and PC World's reviews are a little less strong, devoting less time to test results and objective measures of performance, but they do cover the basics and provide some limited comparisons. ScanDig provides a detailed comparison of the Epson Perfection V700 to dedicated film scanners. Consumers weigh in on the scanner at Amazon.com.

James Galbraith's write-up of the Epson Perfection V700 scanner for Macworld is not particularly long, but it is thorough. The scanner gets a high overall rating, but some scans skew too red.

This review is a bit less thorough and not as well documented as most of M. David Stone's PCMag.com articles. Overall, the Epson Perfection V700 is "very good" for photo scans, but not as robust for office scanning.

The Epson V700 is said to be a good choice if you need the best film scans in this short write-up for PC World. But, suggests reviewer Richard Jantz, the V700 is a bit much for more general scanning.

4. CNET
Lori Grunin is the only reviewer to reconcile the discrepancies in speed performance, as reported by other critics, by exploring speed of the Epson V700 at varying tasks. Her CNET review also recommends the V700 for film digitization over dedicated film scanners like Nikon's Coolscan series.

5. ScanDig
ScanDig .com is a German site primarily geared to reviewing film scanners. Editors review the Epson V700 to see how it fares in film scanning compared to dedicated film scanners. ScanDig editors conclude that the Epson V700 produces sufficient quality for users "without professional requirements;" however, for pros, they say "this device is not the right one."
